Lift the door stop off the jamb. The door stop is the 1.25 cm thick piece of wood on the edge of the jamb that the door rests against when it is closed. Run the tip of a utility knife around the jamb on both sides to remove the paint. Put the tip of a chisel behind the door stop and pry it off. Do this with all three pieces. Pull the nails out with a pair of diagonal pliers.

Pull the door shut

If it needs to be scored, it will probably get stuck in the door frame. Pull it out as far as you can without forcing it. Open the scribing tool. The scribing tool has two small arms. One arm has a pencil on it, and the other arm is a small, flat plate. Separate the two arms by 0.6 cm, then tighten the wing nut to lock them in place.

Hold the scribing tool by the top

Place the pencil side on the door and the flat arm on top of the jamb. Slide the scribing tool around the perimeter of the jamb, with the metal arm following the jamb. Use a cordless screwdriver to unscrew the door from the hinges. Place the door on two sawhorses with the pencil line facing up. Secure the door to the sawhorse with a clamp at one end.

Hold a belt sander with a 100 grit sanding belt level

Start sanding the edge of the door where the line forms an angle. Sand only where the line deviates at an angle, as the door will stick at that point. You should also be able to see where the door sticks on the side where the stain or paint was rubbed off. Sand the perimeter of the door where needed to even out the line so that it is even around the entire perimeter of the door.

Hang the door back in place and test it. If it still rubs or sticks, score it again and sand it again. Check the fitting and repeat the process until the door closes properly. Stain the sanded edge of the door with a matching stain or paint. Allow it to dry. Spray the door with two coats of spray paint. Allow the paint to dry completely between coats. Nail the door stop back on with 3-cm nails and a hammer. Set the nails with a nail set. Putty the holes with a color-coordinated putty pencil.
